About

Hi, I’m NITHIN JAYARAJ

I’m a fitness enthusiast and I love taking care of my health. Born in India, bred in Dubai. Came back to my roots in December 2019 after getting tired of the corporate life and modern rat race. Always loved working out and always made time to go to the gym. My passion for fitness started when I was in university. Before that I was always actively involved with sports and athletics in school. Started bodybuilding before university and freaking loved it.

Bodybuilding made me very aesthetic and muscular with proper diet food and supplements. But the only con was that I was very stiff and not functional at all. But who cared since I was in university, only looks mattered to me. But I felt useless with my body whenever I came back home to India. I use to see my farm workers so ripped and they used to eat everything. They were so ripped and shredded with functional strength. I was still young and didn’t where I was going wrong. But that didn’t stop me from exploring new practices.

Crossfit was the next thing I tried. I equally loved CrossFit because I got functionally strong. But I was still on a diet plan and lots of supplements. But eventually I got minor joint injuries. But I kept going because I love being healthy.

Traditional Indian workouts was my next practice to explore because of these joint injuries. Funny thing what made me try this practice was a Bollywood movie. The villain in the movie was using the mudgar. I got fascinated with that scene and made want to try it since I already had joint injuries. But at that point I got fascinated because he was swinging a wooden log with ease. I couldn’t get hold of a mudgar at that point but i managed to get a sledgehammer because of CrossFit. Made me feel like Thor. I tried tyre slams and then slowly mimic the movement from the movie but it was so difficult even when the sledgehammer was just 4kgs. That was a real eye opener for me because I used to lift heavy. It was really humbling. With more research and self experimental practice my joint pain vanished within a couple of weeks. This got me more curious to research and practice more. Eventually I got hold of the mudgar during one of my trips to India.

Equipments

...

The Mudgar

This equipment has other names. Mudgal/ Karlakattai are a few common names for the Mudgar. Different parts of India have different names for it. The mudgar is a wooden workout equipment replicates the sword and shield. Back in time warriors use this for practice. Now it got domesticated for wrestlers and farmers. The recommended weight for anyone to try would be their own weight divided by 8 and then again divided by 2. For example 80kg person should use a 80/8 = 10, 10/2 = 5kgs. The weight is only one side of the grip, hence when you swing the equipment it will you a good stretch and flex on your rotator cuff. It is best to workout with the recommended weight and try to reach 108 repetition non stop single handedly.

...

The Gada

This equipment is widely seen with lord Hanuman. It’s lord Hanuman’s weapon of positivity. He swings it to spread positivity. This is now an equipment used by wrestlers and grapplers. Now in todays modern world its one of the best equipments to improve core strength, body balance, durable and elastic joints. Since the weight is further away from the grip, there’s more leverage and torque. Hence its harder and more effective than a mudgar but a mudgar is best to start learning with. You have the steelmace which replicates the Gada in steel. It’s more durable as an equipment if multiple people are using it. Wooden Equipment’s are more personal and it has it medicinal benefits.

...

The Sumtola

This unique equipment is used by wrestlers and grapplers aswell. The practitioner has to hold it with 2 hands always. It’s the Indian version of a barbell. But the grip is within the weight. You can use it as barbell with 2 dimensional movements without a adjusting the weight. The sumtola works the whole body of the practitioner from head to toe. The movements with this equipment is similar to grabbing the opponent and throwing them. These variations improve the joints, skin, bone health and body balance.

Why wood?

As you all know wood is organic. Every wood has its own medicinal Properties. When the practitioner trains with these wooden equipments, the medicinal properties gets passed on to the practitioner while training. Hence the practitioner is meant to workout with bare hands. So higher the reps, the practitioner benefits more from the equipment. The Shredded farmer equipments are made from mahogany.

Mahogany bark

The tree is rich in nutrients like vitamins and minerals. The potential benefits mahogany bark is famous for:

  • may boost fertility
  • Cures fever and malaria
  • Might control blood sugar
  • Improves heart health
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Increases appetite especially if you are working out
  • Antioxidant properties
  • Wound healing ability especially with calluses

These are just some benefits working out with equipments made from mahogany wood.

Why high repetitions and low weight? Why I recommend it and call it ?

The Shredded Farmer Way

As you all know I live on a farm in Kerala, South of India. I’ve seen the farmers in my area where they do they same movement like ploughing a field, chopping wood with an axe or cutting wild vegetation to maintain the crops etc from morning to evening like a modern day 9-5 job. They do this everyday all year round except monsoons. They got no health problems and they look healthy, fit, aesthetically good and very good functional strength compared to me, a person who has a desk job and regularly goes to the gym and only lifts weights. The movements are very similar to how a mudgar and Gada is being used by the practitioner. This got me thinking of how I should try the same on myself. High reps & low weight (recommended weight) really helped me get stronger and more durable

Technique of Swinging

The technique is all about being free with the joints. We have to muscle only create a swing with a push and pull. 10 - 15% muscle rest is all momentum. You will only know experience with high reps in one go. Only way to do this is by recommended weight and high reps. It is important to start with recommended weight because the mudgar will stretch and flex your joints in an organic way with gravitational force while swinging. There’s a lot of physics involved, if your recommended weight is 3 kg for the mudgar then it is a 3kg gravitational force stretching your joints. Hence the movement is rehabilitating and pre-rehabilitating for the joints. The gravitational force will align your body to good posture.

Body Alignment

Our body alignment changes over time because of the injuries we have and not taking care of it. The body then re-aligns your posture and way you walk to avoid the pain. After sometime the re-aligned posture becomes the new posture and creates joint pains over time. The new re-aligned posture might be ok for sometime in our life but if you want to get the maximum range of motion from your body then the new re-aligned posture will not give you your maximum performance.

Fresh Food & No Supplement

When I say wholesome I mean fresh food straight from the farm to table. I try to avoid packet food or food which has shelf life. Packet food and canned food have shelf life because they have preservatives which make us unhealthy over time, like gut health, bad skin and hair. Avoid man made sugar and get all your sweetness from fruits, natural honey and jaggery. Since I’m a non vegetarian I get all my protein, collagen, omega 3 and other nutrients from meats and seafood.

Supplement is only needed if you have a deficiency in any nutrients or if you are an athlete who’s going to compete then you will need it because of the extra hours of physical training and exercise. Always take guidance for a nutritionist or dietitian when taking supplements they will guide you.

Products

Note: Equipments are sold as per dimensions and not exact weight because wood is organic and every log has its own oil and water content. Hence I don’t sell as per weight, i only sell the equipment as per recommended dimensions for a practitioner. A beginner can start with standard mudgar or even a Thoppai and move on to 2 Mudgars, then Gada or a sumtola. The adjustable weight handles are highly recommended for beginners and intro to swinging. It’s for good for gym owners for their existing equipments. It’s perfect for traveling and business trips.
